Iceland's Volcano

Eyjafjallajökull (pronounced EY-ya-fyat-lah-YOH-kuht) Volcano
The “EY” part rhymes with the word “bay.” The “k” is softer than an English “k,” almost like a hard “g.” And the “t” at the end kind of stays for a second and ends with a hint of an “l.” If you say it softly it sort of sounds like, “Hey, ya fergot la yogurt.”

The Eyjafjallajökull Volcano erupted on April 16, 2010, the second time in less than a month, though it is still spewing 22-44 tons of magma a second. The volcano caused many flights around the world to be stopped, stranding millions of passengers, losing the airlines 1.7 billion dollars, and canceling more than 100,000 flights between April 15-21. The explosion also caused a 1.4 magnitude earthquake. The eruption caused Eyjafjallajökull Glacier to melt, leaving a huge flood. Eyjafjalla means ice-mountain glacier.
