Meet the Authors
Meet the Authors was an event that took place on April 30th, 2010 in the gymnasium at Emerson School. Second graders had spent much of the winter coming up with creative writing books. During Meet the Authors, the children brought their books to the gym and waited for older kids, parents, and various teachers to read their stories. After participants share their tales, they would sign their autograph on a sheet of paper and leave positive feedback.
Earlier this year, the second graders had read a book, Elements of a Fairytale. They learned about the process of writing a story, along with information about fairytale characters, plots, twists, and resolutions. From there, they worked intensely on coming up with a creative fantasy plot, and making illustrations to go along with the stories. The writers seemed like they had been really looking forward to this day. This is an excellent idea and is mainly made to inspire kids to express themselves through words. Learning to write can play a huge role in a child's future and this example should be a role model for schools everywhere.
