Heisman watch: November 1

note: although in the past this list has included five nominees, at this point in the season only 3 players have legitimate shots at winning the award

1. Cam Newton, QB, Auburn
Newton stays in the top spot even after a sub-par showing against
Ole Miss. However, his lead took a major blow; Denard Robinson
and LaMichael James made up lots of ground with great games versus
Penn State and USC, respectively. He'll need to return to his old form
to lock up the award.

2. Denard Robinson, QB, Michigan
Robinson made the biggest statement on Halloween as he ran for 191
yards and 3 touchdowns while adding another 190 yards and 1 TD
through the air. His huge performance cemented his status as a front
runner after 2 straight mediocre weeks. Robinson has one more game
left on the schdule than Newton, and he could easily sneak back into the
top position if he keeps this up.

3. LaMichael James, RB, Oregon
James managed to keep up his ridiculous pace on Saturday against USC,
posting 239 yards and 3 TD's on the ground. He is neck and neck with
Robinson for second on the list. He has an advantage playing for the top
team in the nation, but he's a hair behind the leaders because he does not
throw the ball and he missed the first two games of the season
