Heisman watch: November 1
note: although in the past this list has included five nominees, at this point in the season only 3 players have legitimate shots at winning the award
1. Cam Newton, QB, Auburn
Newton stays in the top spot even after a sub-par showing against
Ole Miss. However, his lead took a major blow; Denard Robinson
and LaMichael James made up lots of ground with great games versus
Penn State and USC, respectively. He'll need to return to his old form
to lock up the award.
2. Denard Robinson, QB, Michigan
Robinson made the biggest statement on Halloween as he ran for 191
yards and 3 touchdowns while adding another 190 yards and 1 TD
through the air. His huge performance cemented his status as a front
runner after 2 straight mediocre weeks. Robinson has one more game
left on the schdule than Newton, and he could easily sneak back into the
top position if he keeps this up.
3. LaMichael James, RB, Oregon
James managed to keep up his ridiculous pace on Saturday against USC,
posting 239 yards and 3 TD's on the ground. He is neck and neck with
Robinson for second on the list. He has an advantage playing for the top
team in the nation, but he's a hair behind the leaders because he does not
throw the ball and he missed the first two games of the season

Recycled Paper
The Emerson Eagle Eye is now being printed on recycled paper in order for this school to continue its reputation as a Green School. Recycled paper saves our valuable natural resources, saves energy, saves our trees, and helps our over-crowded landfills. Paper that is collected for recycling is sorted according to the type of mill that will use it. Most recovered office paper can be sent to a deinking mill, which separates the ink, coatings and other extra materials from the paper fibers. The fibers are then sent to a paper machine to be made into new paper. For paper to be classified as recycled the EPA guidelines require minimums of 30% post-consumer content for most uncoated printing and writing papers. The newspaper staff has seen these benefits and decided they would be better for the environment . Mr. Loewen is researching different types of paper and we are deciding which to buy.

Heisman watch: October 25
Heisman watch: October 25
1. Cameron Newton, QB, Auburn
The "dual threat" quarterback is now in the driver's seat in the race after
a big game against LSU. Barring injury, he should win the Heisman unless a
team can do something no previous opponent of Newton's has: stop him
2. LaMichael James, RB, Oregon
The sophmore running back continues to dominate for the ducks, leading
the nation in rushing yards per game. He'll stay in the race if he keeps up
his pace, but he'll need Newton to falter to win the trophy
3. Denard Robinson, QB, Michigan
Robinson ranks second in the nation in rushing, right behind James. Our
very own quarterback is still right in the race; his stats are still some of the
most impressive in the nation. This weekend's game against Penn state could
determine whether he launches back into the contention or falls out of discussion
4. Kellen Moore, QB, Boise State
The consistency of Moore has kept him in the race so far, but he simply isn't as
impressive as the other candidates. Add the fact that he plays a weak schedule
and he'll need a miracle to take home the hardware.
5. Terrelle Pryor, QB, Ohio State
Rounding out the list is Pryor, the pre-season favorite, Pryor. A loss against rival
Wisconsin hurt his chances, and now he'll need a few huge games to get back into
the tight race.
